No 78 Flame Lily

Flame Lily – watercolour – 18 x 24

I tried for a wild and free background but think I overdid it – not good at backgrounds yet. I should have left well enough alone, but I had the urge to experiment.
white knight watercolour pans – cad. red, alizarin crimson, lemon yellow, cobalt, ultra blue and indigo with watercolour pencils grated into the wet paint – on fabriano studio 300g paper.

  1. I like the colors and I like the “wild and free” background, but I think you might be having a color intensity fight between the subject and the background. I would try this again, but without using pigments straight from the pan. If you mix in a little of another color on your palette before putting it on the paper, it will dull the background color slightly and allow your beautiful lillies to shine through.

    • I think you are right about the colour intensity – as usual I just dive in and don’t plan enough. Thanks for visiting my site and commenting. I LOVE it when I get good constructive criticism – it all helps with the learning curve.
